Special new cannulas for prophylactic  treatment with higher aerosol absorption

Air abrasion units play a major part in dental prophylaxis, although there are some side effects. The spray mist that forms when the powder is used can spread germs over much of the treatment room. In addition, the greatly accelerated particles can cause irritation to the oral mucosa. With this in mind, hygiene specialist Dürr Dental now provides a special solution: The new prophylaxis cannula.

Yet again, close communication with users in dental surgeries proved its worth during the development of the new prophylaxis cannula. The development of the new special cannula was initiated by a suggestion made by a dental assistant. The result of the initiative is a suction cannula that tapers into a funnel shape at the oral cavity end. Its special shape reduces the distribution of the spray powder by at least 20% in comparison with conventional spray mist suction cannulas.

The specially designed, removable rotating head of the prophylaxis cannula allows the instrument to be placed in the oral cavity of the patient as effectively as possible. As a result, the cannula also effectively protects the oral mucosa, thus keeping irritation caused by the spray powder to a minimum. Even larger particles such as those released when removing fillings or separating crowns and bridges are extremely efficiently evacuated by this special cannula. Thanks to its widened opening, the prophylaxis cannula is also extremely well suited to conservative/prosthetic treatment, being particularly convenient to use in such cases.

In addition, this instrument is characterised by its particularly ergonomic design with no sharp corners and edges and is ideal for use in treatment and prophylaxis without an assistant. Naturally, the prophylaxis cannula has an integrated protective auxiliary air intake to prevent reflux and thus minimise cross contamination.
